Updated: 22/02/2024

Overview

At Stoke by Nayland Resort, we are committed to providing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for all our guests, visitors, and members of staff. We uphold a zero-tolerance policy against any form of bullying, harassment, or victimisation, as these behaviours go against our values of respect, dignity and equality.

What We Expect from Our Guests

  • All guests must treat our staff members, fellow guests and visitors with respect and courtesy at all times.
  • We do not tolerate any form of offensive, intimidating or discriminatory behaviour, whether it is verbal, physical, or non-verbal.
  • This policy applies across all areas of the Resort, including the hotel restaurants, golf courses, spa, gym, and during events or activities on our premises.

Bullying involves offensive, intimidating or malicious behaviour aimed at undermining, humiliating or injuring the target. It may include:

  • Threatening or aggressive language or actions.
  • Repeated derogatory comments or jokes about a person.
  • Exclusionary behaviour or intentional isolation.

Harassment:

Harassment is unwanted conduct that violates a person’s dignity or creates a hostile, degrading or offensive environment. Harassment can be based on:

  • Race, ethnicity or religion.
  • Gender, gender reassignment or sexual orientation.
  • Religion, belief or disability.
  • Age or any other protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.

Examples of harassment include:

  • Inappropriate or offensive comments or gestures.
  • Unwanted physical contact or advances.
  • Displaying offensive materials or making discriminatory jokes.
  • Consistently using incorrect pronouns or names after a gender transition.

Victimisation:

Victimisation involves treating someone unfairly because they have made, or intend to make, a complaint about bullying or harassment, or have supported someone else’s complaint. This may include:

  • Excluding someone from activities or services due to their involvement in a complaint.
  • Retaliatory actions or making threats against someone who has raised concerns.

Third-Party Harassment

We recognise the seriousness of third-party harassment, which occurs when a guest or visitor harasses our staff or other guests. Stoke by Nayland Resort is committed to addressing such incidents promptly. Guests who engage in third-party harassment may be asked to leave the premises and could be banned from returning.

If you experience or witness any form of bullying, harassment or victimisation during your visit, we encourage you to report it immediately. You can:

  • Speak directly to a member or our management team.

We take all reports seriously and will handle them confidentially. Our priority is to ensure a swift and fair resolution, maintaining the safety and comfort of everyone at the Resort.
